Admirals kick off season with a victory

Greenwich started of the 2013/14 season with a victory over Alleyns Appache. The final score was 78-61 but this was far from an easy win.

After a poor first quarter the Admirals were down 17-8 due to some lack luster defending and because of a high number of personal fouls which led to Alleyns Appache receiveing 6 free throws.

From then on though it was much easier going for the Admirals, winning each quarter after that. (2Q 21-17, 3Q 21-13 & 4Q 28-14)

At the start of the second quarter the Admirals looked like a new team on the court, going on a 17-5 run.

The Admirals started the third quarter in similar fashion scoring 12 points without reply to take a 7 point lead. The quarter ended on a sour note however after Admirals captain D. Gaik received his fifth foul and so had to sit out the last quarter of the game.

Alleyns were forced to start fouling at the end of the 4th quarter giving away 7 free throws in the final 2 minutes, on top of this Alleyns third highest scorer C. McBrierty (11pts) fouled out with 6 minutes left in the game. These fouls just seemed to spur Greenwich on and after making 6 out of the 7 free throws they managed to comfortably hold on at the end for the win.

Top 3 scorers for the game were:

25pts M. Kiska (Gre)

20pts M. Francis (Gre)
