Wool and wool-mix carpets provide maximum warmth, luxury and comfort

For centuries, wool carpets have been adorning the floors of homes all over the world – and with good reason. This sustainable, naturally derived material is warm, comfortable underfoot and is great to look at. In modern times, it is also fire-resistant and factory stain-guarded, so no wonder the team at Buxtons recommend it so highly

Our 80/20 wool-mix carpets offer increased flexibility and durability, and give you a greater choice of colour options.

For those looking more towards synthetic fibres, our polypropylene carpets are highly stain-resistant and are therefore ideal for homes with children and pets.

  • Q. What is the best carpet to buy for a living room?
    A. Wool is often considered the best choice for a living room carpet. Its hardwearing qualities – and softness underfoot – make it resistant to being compressed by furniture and footsteps.
  • Q. What thickness of carpet is best?
    A. A general rule of thumb for most residential carpet applications is to choose cushion no more than 7/16 inch thick and no less than 1/4 inch with 6 pounds per cubic feet density.
  • Q. What carpet is good for stairs?
    A. Wool of a density of 40oz or more. Wool is robust and bounces back when vacuumed. Commercial nylon is also good as its fibres repel dirt and stains.
  • Q. What is the most popular carpet right now?
    A. Twisted pile carpet is the most popular style of carpet and comes in a large variety of colours. The yarn has been tightly twisted and the loops are cut creating this style of carpeting
  • Q. What type of carpet lasts the longest?
    A. Wool is the answer. Particularly a traditional woven not tufted type (Like Axminster or Wilton). Then next for durability is a Solution Dyed Nylon (Solution Dyed means the colour goes right through the fibre and not just colour ‘coated’).
