Helping the community
Doddie Weir OBE was one of rugby’s most recognisable personalities, winning championships, representing the British and Irish Lions, and earning 61 caps for Scotland during his career. In June 2017, he revealed he had Motor Neuron Disease (MND), and set up the foundation to help fellow sufferers and further research into the disease. The number “5” features in the Foundation’s name as it was Doddie’s playing number for his clubs, Melrose and Newcastle Falcons, and the jersey he wore when he earned his 61 caps for Scotland.

Home-Start Renfrewshire and Inverclyde help families with young children, providing practical and emotional support to parents/carers with one or more children under 5. Respect, empathy and inclusion are at the heart of what we do. Raising kids is hard work, however our home-visiting volunteers take account of each families’ different needs, helping to improve their confidence and independence.
