Closure

In 2017 St Joseph's School began to charge for the use of the school hall and so the Group began to meet in Southbroom St James Academy in Nursteed Road. In 2020, as the Covid-19 situation developed, the school did not want outside bodies using its premises and so meetings were transferred to the Scout Hall in Southbroom Road and were then run virtually online.

By early 2021 numbers had dwindled and on March 1st 2021 a vote was taken at a meeting of District Leaders to decide the future of 3rd Devizes Scout Group. The result of the vote was that the Group should close. Representatives of 3rd Devizes at the meeting thought that the vote was unconstitutional as a representative of the Sponsoring Authority - the local Roman Catholic Parish - had not been invited to the meeting.

Petitions to the District Commissioner and to the County Commissioner failed to alter the decision and in June 2021 3rd Devizes Scout Group was closed and just over seventy-eight years of providing Scouting to the young people of Devizes was ended.
