Veneers service for referring dentists

As with all our services to referring dentists our veneers service is designed to suit both the treatment needs of your patients and the wishes of you, the referring dentist.

We all recognise the critical importance to patients of the appearance of their teeth to the world around them.

Equally, we frequently see examples where the placement of veneers has not achieved the best result for the patient.  This is an unfortunate result, not least because fitting veneers is a relatively expensive process.

Plowman and Partners is uniquely qualified for the placement of veneers.  Three of our Partners are qualified as Specialists in Prosthodontics and two are qualified as Specialists in Restorative Dentistry.  We know of no other UK Private Dentist practice with this level of expertise.  Many of our patients come from other continents.

Among the problems that we see in referred patients are:-

a failure to deliver a harmonious  and symmetrical appearance

placement of veneers where a wax-up has not been made.  We see this as a vital step

veneers from the dental laboratory ceramist that are non-uniform or not natural.  We work only with top London laboratories

inadequate clinical pre-op assessments and note-taking during the process, including lack of photographs.  As you will see in the case study below we are almost obsessive about taking

photographs as a diagnostic tool as well as a record.

unsightly staining under the veneers showing through to the surface, often due to the use of ferric sulphates as a hemostatic agent instead of aluminium chloride

veneers that overlap the tooth too far and are therefore vulnerable to damage, chip or failure

teeth that have been over-prepared and have cut into the dentine, resulting in both vulnerability to failure and to causing pain.

Above all, we see examples where there was a failure to have an in-depth discussion with the patient.  It is critical to establish a very clear mutual understanding of what can be achieved and what cannot.  This includes mock-ups of the expected final result; mock-ups are a vital communication tool.  On occassion it may be necessary to advise the patient that fitting veneers is not the right course of action.

The case study below illustrates some of the challenges in refitting veneers to create a much better aesthetic result.  Please do contact our practice to discuss any particular challenges for one of your patients
