Liverpool Sun & Air Society - 2012, 2024

We visited LSAS in August as part of a tour of the country. We stayed only two nights and found the members that we met to be very friendly and helpful. There are around fifty caravans and chalets owned by the members and several pitches for visiting caravans as well as an area for tents. Some of the caravan pitches have their own taps and 10 amp electrics. The entrance is at N53.3963° W2.7849°.

LSAS is a well-equipped site with a large clubhouse, a kitchen, showers and lavatories, an open air heated swimming pool, a sauna and a Jacuzzi in addition to miniten, boules and shuffleboard courts.  There is free wi-fi available, but while we were there this was only accessible in the clubhouse. One feature of the shower room is a large mural by Tom Murphy depicting a stylised classical scene.

Although the site is only about a third of a mile from the M62, there was no obtrusive noise of traffic.  For shopping there is a Morrisons supermarket about six miles away at Garston, entrance at N53.3463° W2.8379°.

From here we visited Speke Hall, a National Trust property about nine miles away and close to the end of John Lennon Airport. While there we enjoyed a tour of the house from a 'Victorian' guide and, later in the day, one from a 'Tudor' guide. Entrance to Speke Hall at N53.3418° W2.8684°.

During our 2024 visit in June we stayed for a fortnight and were on the same pitch that we had used on our previous visit. We noticed that the sound of the M62 was much more noticeable and wondered if some trees had been cleared or if there was much more traffic on the road. We noticed that several more chalets had been built, including one that had a rooftop terrace accessed by a spiral staircase. We were sorry to see that the mural in the shower room had been painted over.

The wi-fi signal at our pitch was still poor, in spite of a couple of aerials within a few yards, but we were able to walk down to the clubhouse and sign on to one of several networks down there.

LSAS is a lively club with a social event at least once a month. While we were there the event was a meal followed by bingo, karaoke and a raffle. We were invited to join in, which we did, and had a very pleasant evening, but didn’t take part in the karaoke. We were told afterwards that the evening had raised around £600 for a local hospice.

This time we visited Speke Hall again and also Knowsley Safari Park, around five miles to the northwestish and Chester Zoo, around twenty-three miles to the southwestish. One day we took the number 7 bus into Liverpool from the bus stop near the bottom end of Fox's Bank Lane and enjoyed a short cruise on the River Mersey and an open-topped bus tour of the city. We also found a large Tesco just three miles away at Prescot.
