Whispering Oaks Hideaway - 2019
When we were planning our 2019 tour of America we were looking for a naturist location to stay at between Rock Haven Lodge in Tennessee and Forty Acre Club in Missouri - then we found this cabin. It is not a designated naturist site, but as it stands in its own six acre clearing in sixty-six acres of forest at the end of a quarter-mile drive off a minor road in southern Illinois it is eminently suitable for a naturist lifestyle. We stayed here for four nights in August while on our tour of eight states of the USA and didn't wear anything all the time that we were there.
The cabin had only one double bedroom but there was also a convertible sofa that made a second double bed. The kitchen was equipped with a large electric stove, a large refrigerator and a double sink. It was reasonably well stocked with dishes and cookware. There were also a washer/dryer, a TV/DVD and a central heat & air system.
Outdoor facilities included a covered picnic area, a hot tub, a gas barbecue and a rope hammock.
Free Wi-Fi included
In the surrounding woods there was one long path and a couple of shorter ones. On one of the shorter ones we found a small tortoise which we later identified as a common box turtle. We also enjoyed watching the ruby-throated hummingbirds coming to the feeders that we had managed to buy locally.
From here we visited Mermet Lake, a wildlife reserve around five miles to the east.
