Avalon Resort sits in around a hundred and forty acres of forest about eighty miles north-west of Washington, DC. It has two swimming pools - one indoor and one outdoor, three hot tubs, a sauna, tennis courts, pickleball courts, petanque courts and a gym. There are pitches for over a hundred caravans and fifth-wheels, some of which are available for visitors.  There are also eight log cabins for visitors.  Near the cabins is a memorial garden which includes culinary herbs which may be picked by visitors. There are also three blocks of condos that are owned by members.

We stayed for a week in one of the log cabins.  It was essentially one large room around twenty-five feet by fourteen with a bathroom built into one corner.  There was a king-sized bed, which was very comfortable, one easy chair, a small dining table with two chairs, a couple of occasional tables, two bedside chests of drawers, a short rail to hang clothes - even naturists require a few clothes -  and a very efficient air-conditioning unit.  At one end was a basic kitchen area consisting of a stainless steel sink, a microwave oven, a small conventional electrical oven, a refrigerator/freezer and some cupboards.  It would have been good to have had an electric hob, a couple of saucepans and a frying pan to make cooking meals easier, but we just about managed by eating a lot of salads. Outside was a small wooden terrace with a table and two chairs where we had several of our meals.

In common with most American naturist sites, Avalon has a strict No Cameras policy.

However, when we checked in we mentioned this website and asked if we could take a few photographs of the site.

We were told that we could take discreet photographs of the site when no-one else was around.
