Morfa Dyffryn Beach - 1991, 2023
Morfa Dyffryn is a wide sandy beach, backed by sand dunes, situated about halfway between Barmouth and Harlech.
In 1991 we spent a week in August camping nearby with our three children. We stayed at Dyffryn Seaside Estate, a textile site, at N52.7863° W4.1183°, from where the naturist part of the beach was a twenty minute or so walk.
In 2023 we stayed nearby in our caravan and spent a very pleasant afternoon on the beach. This time we discovered a Snowdonia National Park car park at N52.7834º W4.1170º. From the far end of the car park there is a boardwalk that takes you through the dunes to the back of the beach where there is a bank of pebbles to be crossed to get to the sand.
Once on the sand turn right and walk for just over three quarters of a mile until seeing the red sign denoting the start of the naturist area. The area extends for a further three-quarters of a mile or so along the beach.
The beach shelves very shallowly and at low tide it can be a two hundred yard walk to the sea and a further hundred or so to be in water deep enough to swim.
