Springwood Sun Club - 2022

We spent a week here in July as part of our tour of the country. We were made very welcome and offered cups of tea while we were setting up.

The club sits in around seven acres of woodland a few miles outside Colchester. Over half of the site is taken up with around forty members' cabins, the clubhouse and other associated buildings, together with a swimming pool, two miniten courts, boules courts, a small gym, a sauna, a large southwest-facing lawn and space for visiting tents, caravans and motorhomes. The rest of the site remains as woodland with a very pleasant walk, punctuated with a couple of wooden benches, going through it.

Initial entry to the site is by means of a push button and after that visitors are given the gate code. Visitors' pitches are supplied with 6A electric hookup and there is a visitors' kitchen with microwave, refrigerator, freezer, kettle, toaster and washing machine.

Members and visitors are required to sign in each day in the book in the clubhouse as a health and safety precaution.

Unfortunately there are no facilities for the disposal of rubbish or recycling and all rubbish and recycling must be taken off site. We were pleased that we were able to discharge our grey water into the adjacent hedge. It saved a lot of emptying of our waste water container.

From here we visited Shingle Street beach - see our Suffolk page - and Sutton Hoo, a National Trust property about eight miles eastish of Ipswich.

Free Wi-Fi included
