Missouri - the Show Me State
Forty Acre Club - 2019
Forty Acre Club is situated in eighty (!) acres of woodland about forty miles southwest of St Louis. We spent a week here over August and September as part of our eight state tour of the USA.
We stayed in one of their cabins, which consisted of a good sized room with two queen beds, a table and two chairs, a small refrigerator and a microwave oven. The room was well decorated with a ceramic tiled floor and an air-conditioning unit in one of the two windows. Outside we had a picnic table with a parasol and two chairs.
Site facilities include a large clubhouse with catering grade kitchen, a swimming pool, a hot tub, a tennis court, a crazy golf course and other games areas, a children's play area and a community kitchen which can be used by those staying in the cabins to prepare and cook meals.
Near the clubhouse is a service block containing an indoor shower with lavatory and three other lavatories. On the back wall of the block are four outdoor showers. A short distance to the right of the cabins, as you exit the doors, is another service block - grandly named The Taj Mahal - which has two lavatories, two wash basins, two indoor showers and two outdoor showers.
The campsite takes up around forty of the eighty acres of the site with the rest covered by forest. Throughout the forest are several paths. One walk that we took was around two miles.
From here we visited the Gateway Arch, a magnificent 630 foot stainless steel arch in St Louis, around fifty miles to the northeast. There are lifts that take visitors right to the top.
Like most American naturist clubs, Forty Acre Club has a strict No Cameras policy
and so we were unable to take any photographs of the site or even ourselves.
Fortunately we were able to borrow some photographs from the club's website.
